About Top Talent

Top Talent are those employees that are the brightest and smartest within your organization. Every company has them but very few know how to collaborate with them.
A recent post at Systematic HR entitled Leading Top Talent hit the nail on the head with their assessment:
Top Talent does not want to be managed
How true… I’m always surprised how narrow-minded many managers are and how they limit their corporate performance by putting virtual ceilings on their high performers. Often there are too many rules or other road blocks that eventually lead these talented individuals to leave and seek other organizations that ‘get it’.
I’ve experienced this personally and know first-hand how frustrating it can be when you see great opportunities but face challenges at every turn. In today’s world of our knowledge economy where people continually push the envelope looking for bigger challenges, yesterday’s rules for managing people need to be thrown out the window.
Smart organizations get this… they give their high performers the room and opportunity to excel. They know when the individual succeeds, the company succeeds. In our company, we look to hire the brightest minds around and give them the latitude and support they need to do their best, and then some.
We look beyond titles and try to focus on challenges. We promote collaboration and provide each employee the opportunity to grow, to learn and to help each other. We don’t tell them what to do, instead we tell them what we’re trying to do and let them figure out how to get it down.
This is the way to work with your best performers. This is how to work with top talent.
